History of Puppetry
in Canada

Edith Gardner

Edith Gardner, a Home Economics teacher in Hamilton, Ontario, worked independently of the professional puppeteers' circle. Her interest in puppetry began in the 1940s, and she became active in the Hamilton Marionette Club, the Southwestern Ontario Puppetry Guild and the Ontario Puppetry Association. One of her puppets' most interesting characteristics is that their faces were often portraits of people she knew.
