(Alternate name: Handheld Puppet)
Puppet manipulated without any intermediary means or external devices (for example, rods, strings) and whose basic structure is not dependent on the body or a part of the body of the puppeteer (for example, a hand puppet, in which the body is defined by the arm and hand of the puppeteer). The direct-manipulation puppet can be articulated or not, freestanding or not. Direct manipulation is often - but not exclusively - in full view of the audience.
