(Alternate name: Rod Puppet)
This category of puppet is controlled from above using a metal rod attached to the centre of the puppet's head. The limbs can be controlled by smaller rods or strings, or a combination of the two. Sometimes there is a single central metal rod. The term "rod marionette" differentiates this type of puppet from the all-string marionette, which is usually referred to simply as a "marionette". The rod marionette is considered the ancestor of the marionette or string puppet.
